We return to one of the first producers that inspired me to develop the Discover Club, Alois Lageder. Alois Lageder is a 6th generation wine estate in Alto Adige, Italy. “Clemens,” the 6th generation, is the one who pushed their family estate towards biodynamics. After an exceptional tasting with him, I asked what his favorite project was. His answer involved several wines, but the “Comets” series was at the top of that list. This month, I’m happy to introduce you to Alois Lageder “SOA XX.”
It is near impossible to find exquisite Barolo under $100 a bottle. Near impossible. However, Marcarini delivers with their 2016 “La Morra” Barolo.
Barolo is often considered The Wine of Kings, partly because it takes years or decades to mature, and partly due to its price. However, just 10 miles north of Barolo is Roero. Here, Malvira produces a lovely Nebbiolo Riserva that was conveniently aged in their cellars before presenting to you! Perhaps it IS possible to have your cake and eat it too.
This month, I wanted to bring you my favorite holiday feast wine, Brunello di Montalcino, and it could not get better than the 2015 bottling from Le Ragnaie.
This month, for Just A Taste’s Jefferson Club, we take a look at an historic producer creating a modern wine with Barone Ricasoli’s “Casalferro” 2015.
