THE DISCOVER CLUB - March 2021

Barolo is often considered The Wine of Kings, partly because it takes years or decades to mature, and partly due to its price. However, just 10 miles north of Barolo is Roero. Here, Malvira produces a lovely Nebbiolo Riserva that was conveniently aged in their cellars before presenting to you! Perhaps it IS possible to have your cake and eat it too.

ABOUT ROERO

Roero is a small region just 10 miles north of Barolo. Here, the ancient white grape Arneis is the star, but red wines are vinified from the regional favorite Nebbiolo. In the sandy clay vineyards, the grape has a more approachable character than its siblings to the south.

WHY WE’RE EXCITED ABOUT THIS WINE

Malvira was started by the Damonte family in 1950 with a great appreciation for the land. They own 40 hectares of 100% organically farmed vineyards, including the unique Renesio cru containing some of the oldest Arneis vines in existence. This particular label, Roero Riserva Trinita, comes from the Trinita cru and was aged in the winery’s cellars for 15 years before being released. It is already in peak maturity, so you’ll get a chance to experience what wonderfully aged Nebbiolo can perform.
