fun fact
Sangiovese is the top red grape of Tuscany and is grown in many appellations. In Chianti, it is simply called Sangiovese (or Sangiovese Grosso). In Montepulciano, it is known as Prugnolo Gentile. But in Montalcino, these larger berry clones are known as Brunello.
Why I am excited about this wine
Le Ragnaie is situated at the highest elevation of the steep hill that is Montalcino. Here, the southwestern facing slopes achieve some of the longest hang times while retaining great acidity, leading to classic, yet full-flavored Brunello. The label is an homage to the historied past of the estate: the artwork depicts a bird net, as this area was once been famous for birdcatchers.
