Why we’re excited about this wine
Summertime to me means fun, refreshing beverages to be enjoyed outside with friends and family. The Ca' del Sarto Pinot Grigio reflects what I personally enjoy in rosé, a dry, refreshing, and fairly straightforward palate. My wife and I love our go-to bottles, however, when we are enjoying a glass of wine outside on hot, muggy days we do not want to open an expensive bottle or one with a high amount of complexity. We often will reach for an easy-drinking affordable wine meant to be chilled. Open this wine and toss the cap away, you surely will not be needing it.
Ca' del Sarto Nero d'Avola
Winemaker: Angelo Molito
Region: Italy, Sicily
Grape Varietal: Nero d'Avola
Viticulture: Fruit sourced from Ca' del Sarto vines on the island of Sicily.
Method: 4 days maceration - 8 days fermentation in stainless steel going through complete malolactic fermentation. Aging is done for 8 months in concrete tanks.
Serving Suggestions: Serve slightly below room temperature with rich red meat or possibly lentils and shiitake mushrooms.
Age: Most Nero d’Avola wines will age confidently for 10 years.
Nose: Red plums, Morello Cherries, as well as some dried herbs.
Tasting Notes: Deep texture with lively tannins. Dark red and black fruits are ever-present as well as dried prune notes.
Why WE’RE excited about this wine
If you adore full-bodied dry reds like Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah then Nero d’Avola could quite possibly be your new best friend. This lesser-known Sicilian grape variety warrants more acknowledgment as a wine to be craved. The moderate acidity will not exhaust your palate and allows for some fun food pairings. Nero d'Avola provides a great price-to-value ratio with an added bonus, allowing yourself to be adventurous with a new wine variety instead of reaching for the same California Cabernet.
